A Full-Featured Website in 4 Hours

Building a Website with our Own Hands
" - Politicians and oligarchs talk about the dangers that artificial intelligence will bring to humanity.
- It’s logical. The first thing AI might do is reveal the dangers that politicians and oligarchs pose to humanity ".

Our company has been around for a while. We handle various IT projects. But recently, we’ve launched a new direction, which presented us with a challenge—how to start quickly without investing significant resources in promotion?

The new business is about providing services to clients by implementing the Odoo system. It’s a comprehensive business automation system for small and medium-sized companies operating both locally and internationally.

The face of any modern company is its website. How can you create one quickly when our developers are busy with other projects? That’s why I decided to try doing it myself.

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT

Goal: Create a full-featured business website in one day.

Since we offer Odoo to our clients, I will build the site using this system.

Odoo consists of different apps—modules that are integrated into a single system and interact with each other. An Odoo database with a standard license is already installed on our server. So, in the app selection mode, I simply activate the Website app.

Odoo offers to build a great website in 4 steps. From the options available, I choose a business site. Then, I select color schemes and standard blocks from the templates that I want to see on our website.

Within seconds, I have the “skeleton” of a site. The site includes:

  • A navigation menu for the pages;
  • Pre-filled blocks with sample texts and images, which I need to replace with my own;
  • Contact information that also needs to be updated;
  • A feedback form, which can be configured to send the visitors' information either to the website’s backend database or to an email address you specify. This is very convenient!

I fought the fleeting urge to tweak styles, colors, and formatting in various blocks.

I kept my goal in mind—the site needs to go live by tomorrow.

All the "fancy" stuff can be added later, and additional modules can be implemented afterward. Every extra effort must bring extra benefit. So, I focused on the main task—the site content.

The site is planned to be in three languages. From the long list, I chose Latvian, Russian, and English… And voilà—the language switcher appeared, and the main elements of the site are now available in three languages.

Writing the content for the pages and translating it was up to me. Though AI can be a great help in this area as well. Some of its functions are already available in Odoo.

I published the site. You can now check it out at https://elmitech.eu/

I’ll add that the domain name needs to be registered separately. It must be entered in the corresponding setting.

However, if you host your site (and database) on Odoo's servers, you will be offered a domain name like mycompany.odoo.com, where “mycompany” is a name you choose. But you can replace it with your own registered domain name.

Finally, I checked how the site looks when accessed from a mobile device. It’s fully responsive. The design is modern, and, in my opinion, it’s quite user-friendly.

The entire process took about 4 hours. A great result for creating a landing page. The site can be further developed, expanded, and modified. Additionally, with one Odoo database, you can link multiple sites if needed. These can also be built using Odoo's built-in tools.

Of course, you need to learn how to use this tool. But to save your own time, you can entrust the work to professionals. For example, to us.

Good luck with your business!
