Managing meat production involves much more than recording purchased raw materials and finished goods. A company needs to track lots and expiration dates, account for intermediate products and production losses, record quality check results, and maintain a clear link between finished products and the raw materials used to produce them.

We have prepared an illustrative demonstration scenario in Odoo 19 based on the production of cooked turkey sausage. It covers the complete business process, from purchasing raw materials to selling finished products, issuing invoices, and recording payments.

What the Scenario Includes

The process begins with setting up the required master data:

  • suppliers and customers;
  • raw materials, ingredients, and packaging materials;
  • intermediate and finished products;
  • units of measure;
  • warehouse locations;
  • recipes and bills of materials;
  • manufacturing operations and work centres;
  • quality control points.

A purchase order is then created and the raw materials are received into the warehouse. Meat and other ingredients are recorded with their lot numbers and expiration dates. Odoo stores this information in the inventory records and uses it when the materials are issued to production.

The manufacturing process is divided into several consecutive stages:

  1. Preparing the sausage mixture.
  2. Thermal processing and producing the whole sausage.
  3. Slicing and packaging part of the finished lot.

At each stage, the system records the materials consumed, the lots used, the quantity produced, production losses, and the newly created lot.

Quality checks can be used to record the temperature of raw materials and finished products, package weight, seal condition, correct labelling, and other relevant parameters.

Once production has been completed, a sales order and delivery are created. The delivery records the actual product lots supplied to the customer. The purchase and sales documents provide the basis for creating the vendor bill and customer invoice. Payments can be imported or entered as bank transactions and reconciled with the corresponding invoices.

Product Traceability

One of the most important results of the scenario is the lot traceability report.

It allows users to determine:

  • which customer received a particular lot of finished products;
  • which lot of whole sausage was used to produce the sliced product;
  • which intermediate-product lot was used in production;
  • which lots of meat and other ingredients were included in the product;
  • which supplier provided the raw materials.

The traceability chain can be followed from the finished product back to the original raw materials or in the opposite direction.

What the Presentation Shows

The attached presentation shows the main Odoo 19 screens in the order in which the business process takes place: master data setup, purchasing, inventory and lot tracking, manufacturing, quality control, sales, invoicing, payments, and reporting.

This is an illustrative example intended to demonstrate the capabilities and general operating principles of the system. It does not reproduce the exact manufacturing process of any particular company. Before implementation, the company’s actual production processes, accounting requirements, equipment, and document flows need to be analysed separately.

ELMI Technologies can help analyse your business processes, prepare a demonstration scenario using your company’s data, configure Odoo, migrate information from your existing system, and develop any additional functionality or integrations you may require.
